In an article by Byens Ejendom, it is reported that atNorth, in partnership with the Swedish project developer WA3RM, is developing a 650,000 sqm site north of Varde in western Denmark. The site will feature a 250,000 sqm data center—set to become the largest in Denmark—alongside 400,000 sqm of high-efficiency greenhouses powered by excess heat from the facility. The project is currently in the local planning phase, with final permits expected by autumn 2025 and construction scheduled to begin in 2026. The initiative is a clear example of sector coupling, where the substantial heat generated by the data center’s computing infrastructure will be repurposed to sustainably heat the greenhouses, which will reach up to 25 meters in height. The data center is expected to create around 100 jobs, while the greenhouse operations will employ approximately 400 people. WA3RM’s greenhouse development is backed by SEK 8 billion in financing from the Swedish Vinga Group. atNorth’s share of the project is supported by one of the world’s largest asset managers, with an investment of SEK 25 billion.
