With its abundance of renewable power, political stability, and advanced digital infrastructure, Norway is not just keeping up with the digital revolution—it is shaping its sustainable future. Norway balances the natural advantages of a cool, stable environment with the created advantages of affordable, renewable energy and a strong infrastructure; making Norway a compelling location for data centers.

Learn more about Norway data center industry

1 – Norway’s natural benefits

Data centers in Norway benefit from:

  • A year-round mild climate that supports free ambient cooling for reduced operational costs and low PUE.
  • Access to affordable, renewable energy sourced from hydropower and wind energy, minimizing carbon footprints.
  • A solid, modern power infrastructure that ensures reliable and sustainable operations.

2 – Why choose Norway for your data center?

Norway stands out as a secure, green, and digitally advanced location for data operations:

  • Affordable green energy
Norway plans to halve CO₂ emissions by 2030 on the way to becoming a zero-emission country by 2050. Nearly 98% of the country’s electricity comes from renewable hydropower, making it one of the cleanest grids in the world.
  • Circular economy
Waste heat generated by data centers can be captured and reused to heat homes in local communities, promoting sustainability and an innovative way to integrate digital infrastructure with local communities.
  • Excellent connectivity
Norway boasts a rapidly expanding network of submarine fibre optic cables, providing direct links to European data hubs.

Frequently asked questions

What are data centers and why are they needed?

At their core, data centers are simply buildings full of powerful computers. These computers store, process, and manage the data that keeps our digital lives running.

Everyday things like sending a text, shopping online, or streaming a movie on a Friday night — all of that activity runs through a data center. The moment you hit play on that film, a request goes through the internet to a data center, and the servers there send the movie back to your screen in real time.

But it’s not just entertainment. Data centers are critical for things like financial services, healthcare, transport, and now of course AI, which requires enormous amounts of computing power. As these technologies grow, so does the need for reliable and sustainable data center capacity.

Why Norway and why Haugaland Næringspark?

Norway, alongside its Nordic neighbors benefits from a naturally cool climate and an abundance of renewable energy which enables energy efficient cooling techniques that in turn reduce the cost and carbon footprint of cooling energy intensive workloads.

The Haugaland Business Park provides available land that is easily accessible by road, sea and air. It also benefits from excellent connectivity supported by Norway’s robust power infrastructure. The park is situated in a well-established industrial area that hosts a wide range of companies. As a result, the region benefits from a highly skilled workforce that we hope to attract to our business.

Additionally, the park is part of a carbon capture collaboration called Industrial Symbiosis Haugalandet that works with partners for increased circularity and better utilization of resources in the region, which aligns directly with atNorth’s sustainability goals.

All atNorth data centers employ heat reuse technology and the NOR01 campus will be no exception. We are actively seeking opportunities to recycle waste heat from the infrastructure cooling process  in collaboration with stakeholders within the park.

What will atNorth do for the community?

For atNorth, running data centers means being a good neighbor and a trusted partner. In other regions, we’ve supported local education, charities, and community projects, through volunteer support and financial donations. Examples include sponsoring a local run in Akureyri and the town light festival in Reykjanesbær – both in Iceland, funding swimming lessons for children in Finland – as well as mental health initiatives, anti-bullying programs and even local football clubs across our other Nordic locations.

We want to bring that same spirit of engagement to Tysvær. Our goal is to support the local economy, help create opportunities, and really be part of the community for the long term.
