March 2025 Planting a flag for a better future Blog Leadership Sustainability Home Insights Blog Planting a flag for a better future What the UN Global Compact means for atNorth~ By Cora Olsen, Director of Sustainability At the end of 2024, we became a signatory of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) to further enhance our continued commitment to sustainability. Becoming a signatory of the UNGC is important for atNorth as we want to stand side by side with the thousands of organizations who share a similar vision to have a world where people and nature thrive. The UNGC is one of very few global collectives that enables members to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles across human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. As one of the largest corporate sustainability initiatives in the world, the UNGC acts as a common global denominator to report on sustainability initiatives, encourage international cooperation and mobilize businesses to lead responsibly and demonstrate sustainable business practices. While the reasons to join the UNGC are aplenty, for atNorth it is this unilateral focus on bringing today’s global business leaders together to help create – and be held accountable– a responsible, kind, ethical and sustainable future that is important. Translating the UN Global Compact for atNorth and partnersWe’ve already talked about how the UNGC aims to foster a collective effort to build a ‘better’ global economy – but what does this mean in practice for atNorth, our partners, customers, employees and stakeholders? In addition to providing a platform for collaboration and framework for sustainable business models, the UNGC gives members the tools, resources and networks they need to drive ethical, responsible and sustainable long-term business practices across every stage of operation. At atNorth, we believe this is crucial, as we can only be successful in achieving our goals if we make sure our stakeholders are with us side-by-side on the journey. To do this, our aim is to capitalize on the UNGC’s platform to help our customers, partners, supply chain and communities at large – tapping into collective action for change so that we can play a strong part in building a sustainable, fair and ethical global economy. The global stage – we’re better together As we continue to grow and scale, we know how important it is to align our business to global sustainability objectives at every possible juncture. Taking part in the UN’s Global Compact is a crucial step in this journey, as we focus on a future where digital infrastructure meets sustainable mindset. atNorth’s vision for the modern data center industry incorporates circular economy principles and global sustainability and restorative targets. These practices will help our business, partners, and customers reduce environmental impact and actively contribute to a sustainable society. The UNGC is unique in understanding that without wide-spread collaboration across consumers, government and business, we cannot protect the planet, people and ultimately our future. Our commitment to the UN Global Compact reflects our steadfast dedication to creating a sustainable, regenerative future through collaboration and responsible business practices. We are incredibly proud to stand in partnership with the UN Global Compact to lead by example and make a real impact – together. Share
